FAQ

Q: What is a zine?
A: A zine is a collaborative collection of fan works (art and writing) centered around a central idea or theme.
Q: What is this zine about?
A: This project is dedicated to the relationship between Hinata Shouyou and Kageyama Tobio (KGHN) in the canon universe of Furudate-sensei’s Haikyuu!! manga. Someone Even Better will be split into three (3) sections: Greatest Ally, View From the Top, and World Stage.
Q: What are the zine specifications?
A: Our main SFW zine will be A5 physical, full color, and perfect bound. If an NSFW add-on is possible, it will be digital only.
Q: Is this zine for-profit or for-charity?
A: This zine will be a split-profit zine, with half of the proceeds being donated to a charity and the remaining half distributed between all contributors on the project after shipping and production have concluded.
Q: How will contributors be compensated?
A: Contributors will at least receive the digital zine. If sales allow, contributors will receive physical copies of the zine and all merchandise. Any further profits will be split between a charity and all contributors equally.
Q: Can I apply if I am a minor?
A: Due to our aim for a split-profit zine, we cannot accept minors into the zine as contributors in compliance with labor laws.
Q: Can I apply for more than one position?
A: Yes! You can apply as both a writer and an artist! However, bear in mind that you will only be accepted for one position.
Q: Are other characters allowed in this zine?
A: Other characters that are featured within the series are free to make appearances in the zine, but be mindful to keep the focus of your piece on KageHina.
Q: Does my work in the zine have to be canon or follow the series timeline?
A: Yes—aside from KageHina, that’s our focus for this zine! Canon-verse, or canon compliant, can be anywhere within the series timeline, so you may choose to do whatever content you like, so long as it’s SFW. If you want to do a piece during the main portion of the series, you can do that. Additionally, your piece can be from past events or post-time skip!
Q: Are AUs or headcanons allowed?
A: As this is a canon-verse zine, we will only allow pitches focused on the canon Haikyuu!! timeline, so we will not be allowing AUs. However, headcanons will be allowed, as these can be canon compliant with the series!
Q: Is NSFW content allowed in the zine?
A: The main zine is strictly SFW, however we may consider an NSFW add-on; this depends on the results of our interest check.
Q: What are the content restrictions for the NSFW add-on?
A: If the add-on is possible, the following content will NOT be allowed: non-con, scat/emeto, underage, and piss/watersports. This list is currently subject to change.
Q: Can I apply with NSFW pieces?
A: In the event that there isn’t enough interest for an NSFW add-on, the project will be SFW only. Should that be the case, we ask that you use your best judgment when selecting pieces to submit in your application, regarding the content and potential triggers. You may tag pieces with proper content warnings, however ALL samples for the main zine must be SFW.
Q: What is a ‘pinch hitter’?
A: If you are not initially accepted into the zine, but express interest in being a pinch hitter, you may be asked to join in place of someone who left/was removed from the project. If you are brought onto the project as a contributor, and no other pinch hitters outside of the project are available, this means you may be asked to do a second piece.
Q: How do check-ins work?
A: Check-ins are how the mods can keep track of everyone’s progress during the creation period. More information about check-ins will be detailed in the designated channels on our discord. The dates for each check-in are also provided on our schedule!
Q: What happens if I miss a deadline?
A: If you frequently check our discord, mods will be sure to give contributors plenty of notice when a deadline is approaching (usually a week before). It’s best to inform a mod if you think you can’t meet a deadline ahead of time, so that we can work on making sure you stay on track by giving you a reasonable extension. We understand your personal life comes first, so if you work with us, we’ll work with you!

Should you fail to respond to announcements and reminders regarding deadlines, failure to inform a mod of your absence, and failure to show us any progress of your work until after the 2nd check-in, will result in removal from the project. Remember, this only applies if you fail to communicate your absence. Should you inform us in advance, and manage to show us progress of your work, you will not be removed from the project.
Q: How do extensions work?
A: Should you need an extension for a check-in, simply ask a mod for an extension either privately or in the server, and (depending on your situation) the mods will give you an appropriately timed extension.
Q: If selected, will I be able to share previews on my social media?
A: Please hold off on sharing any WIPs on social media. Previews and snippets of your piece will be used to promote the zine during pre-orders, so please refrain from sharing any progress online until the mods give permission, after orders are delivered.

However, feel free to share your WIPs privately with your friends! Make sure that these WIPs stay exclusively private. You will be removed from the project should you try to purposely publish any zine work that has not been approved by the mods in the designated time frame, as this hinders pre-orders immensely.
Q: Can I sell artwork created for this zine?
A: Once the zine has been released, you are free to do what you want with your pieces, including selling any artwork. Please wait for the mods’ say-so before doing so!
Q: I have a question that isn’t answered here, where can I ask?
A: You may reach us on any of our social media! However, given the current state of Twitter, you’ll have the best luck contacting us through Retrospring, our Tumblr ask box, or our email. Please check to make sure your question hasn’t already been answered—it’s likely someone else has had the same question as you!
